Zafferano e dintorni
Nasce nel 1985, come Azienda Agricola Balli Rita, quando Rita ritorna ad abitare in Valnerina e con il marito decidono di coltivare, nel tempo libero, i terreni della sua famiglia. All’inizio, aiutando il padre in una conduzione tipicamente di autoconsumo, ha imparato ad avere con la terra ed i suoi prodotti un rapporto fatto di intimità e riconoscenza.
Successivamente, una volta che i figli si sono inseriti appieno nell’azienda, nasce Zafferano e Dintorni Società Agricola Semplice, che definisce così la multifunzionalità delle attività che sono nate negli anni.
Questo rapporto stretto e personale con la terra ed i suoi frutti, che non ci ha mai abbandonato, è stato fondante nella configurazione attuale della nostra azienda.
Sempre attenti a coniugare innovazione e tradizione, nella scelta dell’indirizzo colturale siamo stati influenzati dall’ambiente circostante, dalla ridotta superficie aziendale coltivabile e dal fascino di alcune colture, legate anche alla storia del territorio come alcune piante aromatiche ed officinali.
Produciamo principalmente mele, ma anche piccoli frutti, come lamponi e more ed altro ancora, frutta che viene venduta direttamente in azienda ed in parte trasformata in confetture, sciroppi o gelatine. Altri prodotti, ma non meno importanti come zafferano, ortaggi ed olio, sono a disposizione per i clienti; come anche erbe e piante aromatiche raccolte in azienda e nel territorio circostante quali sambuco, timo, camomilla, tiglio, menta.
The choice to diversify our products and sell them straight from the farm was a difficult but necessary one. A particular achievement of ours has been to gain the trust and loyalty of long-time customers by guaranteeing the freshness, authenticity, and quality of our products.
About us
The Giampiccolo family– Rita, her husband Claudio, and their children Martaand Luca– make a tight group, each with their own talents and expertise; together they are more than up for the task of managing a complex business which is grounded in the agricultural reality. Each member of the family contributes personally to the farm work, albeit with different responsibilities, and the same goes for the related activities Zafferano e dintorni provides, such as the environmentally friendly educational farm (all four are certified operators) and the guided bicycle tours.
Rita Balli – supporting pillar of the business, who directly cultivates and oversees the educational farm – has a profound knowledge of the local art history, the surrounding environment, and of the many medicinal herbs and wild plants to be found there.
Claudio Giampiccolo – retired agriculturist with experience in zootechnics, fruit farming, herbal medicine, nursery growing, and environmental education, as well as being a certified mountain biking guide – keeps an eye on everything that happens on the farm and helps out wherever he is needed.
Martahas a degree in anthropological sciences and graduated with a paper on the culinary use of wild plants and a thesis about the Cascia Saffron Association. Well-versed in the anthropologic, ethnographic, historic, artistic, and cultural reality of the Narco valley, she is the point of contact between the farm and the region.
Lucahas integrated into the business very well as a direct cultivator; his role consists of tractor work and pruning. A certified cycling guide and trainer who can navigate the most challenging terrains, he is the perfect companion for any mountain bikingexcursion.
